Construction of Pump Station & Emergency Storage BM01

The recently completed project at Beachmere for Moreton Bay Regional Council and MWH Australia, was a challenge for all involved in the project. Some of the obstacles encountered and overcome include the lack of construction area in which to work, acid sulphate soils, acidic water, environmental concerns and the close proximity of local residents.

This project involved the construction of a new pump station and the installation of “Plastream” emergency storage chambers along with the associated pipe work.

Due to the level of construction all water from construction has to be treated. This involved the use of an in-line treatment system to ensure the correct PH and oxygen levels prior to discharge. All excavated material over 1 metre in depth also had to be lime treated and tested prior to use for backfilling or disposal off site. This involved mixing of up to 35kg/m3 of agricultural lime.

The successful completion of this project could not have been achieved without the help of partners such as Hallco Engineering, Australian Dewatering, Rocla, MWH and the commitment of staff from MCQ.
